The Challenge for CEO’s and Business Owners

The Challenge:  To keep your business running, even during Power Outages or through a Complete Disaster.

A business case to move important applications into a Secure, High-Availability Internet Data Centre

Often we talk about Disasters that reek havoc on business, like fires and flooding.  But many times it can be as simple as a prolonged power outage that can cause a major distribution.  Ask any executive how the 4 day long power outage in Vancouver's downtown affected their business.

Now imagine for just a minute that an important application was not available to you or any of your staff.  Maybe it’s your Exchange Server that fails, removing the ability to send and receive emails, view contacts and appointments in your calendar or important Tasks that are due.  Or maybe it’s your Accounting program with Accounts Payable and more importantly, Accounts Receivable information.  ERP, CRM, Document Management, even your telephone system are important components to running a successful business, and can make life very difficult if not available.

Business, to be successful, need to be available around the clock, whether it’s customers looking to purchase, suppliers needing to deliver or users needing access to information.

One option is to invest, but the costs for redundant clean power, multiple Internet connections (with enough bandwidth) and a proper Secure Server room can be extremely expensive to say the least.  Another option is to relocate your important business applications into a Secure, Climate Controlled, High-Availability Internet Data Centre.  A Data Centre where the investment has already been made by another company and you simply share the space and resources, for a monthly fee.

CEO’s and business owners can take advantage of a proper co-location facility, for as little as a few hundred dollars per month.  At Primus, your applications can run on a Virtual Managed Machine or a Dedicated Server that are accessible by your team remotely 24/7, but are supplied and managed by Primus.  Or your own equipment can be moved into a secure Cabinet that you have physical access to around the clock.

If you are considering the advantages of co-locating your applications into a proper Data Centre I’d recommend considering the following as important features.

  • 24 x 7 monitoring and technical support
  • Sophisticated Biometric access control systems and video camera surveillance
  • Gas fire suppression system and pre-action sprinkler systems
  • Advanced climate control systems with redundant, computer-grade air conditioning and humidity control systems
  • Massive power distribution systems with full redundant battery, UPS backup and diesel generator protection
  • Redundant fiber-based multi-homed internet backbone with redundant multi-gigabit Internet connections to multiple Tier 1 Internet providers using BPG-4 routing protocol
